Because it is also consumerism that ails us, that impales us, that renders us a part of a contest that we did not sign up for. Here’s to a Woman’s Month that is just about us, not about products that are supposed to make us feel womanhood.
And also reminds us of the value of even the empowered fictional characters we admire.

Thank you for helping me embrace my femininity though it is truly a struggle until now, under certain circumstances, to embrace all that that means. May you remain strong and courageous while also being true to your hearts. Thrive through your hard times and turn pain into beauty and strength. May we be in awe of your presence. I recite your names in silence, you deserve to be named this day ❤️ And to all the men who know how to value the women in their lives and respect them. And know not only to “protect” or “save” them out of fear of their “weakness” but thank you to those who understand to let their women shine and stand and speak for their own. Who aren’t afraid to watch the women in their lives blossom and grow. Those who aren’t afraid to listen and accept women as equal. May this day remind us not just of our power as women, but also of how we need rest and calm, how our hearts can break and take forever to heal, how we know and feel pain and can crumble under its weight, how we might embrace the wrong loves and spend our sweet time in denial, how we might wallow in hurt and waste time in anger, and how we can get up every day regardless because that’s just what we know to do. And if we choose to stay in bed, that’s good, too. Happy Women’s Day!
