Women’s Month 2012 was the perfect time to kick-off The Be Cause: body image campaign, one that was about simply having the Pinay talk about her body and reclaim it with words, in the process allowing her to refuse the unreal images of women’s bodies that are out there. Via an email sent to my network, and the blogs radikalchick and irrationalfits, we invited women to submit a body image slogan or two that would respond to the contemporary beauty industry’s definitions of beauty.
At the very least this campaign was a step towards beginning intelligent discussions about being woman. At most? It is telling younger Pinays that they are okay, that we are all fine, with the skins and bodies and hair we were born with, because too, we are so much more than what we look like.
We kicked off The Be Cause: body image campaign with our own photos, but in the course of March 2012, 35 or so Pinays had posted their slogans on their Facebook accounts, which was collected in a public Facebook photo album. They are here now, as a continuing celebration of Pinays real and normal. All beautiful.
The Be Cause: body image campaign is an ongoing campaign! Send us a photo of yourself holding up a slogan or two (or three or four)!
